THE PROCESS

Whether a client wishes to be seen as an expert in their field or a warm and easy-going storyteller, I derive great satisfaction from creating quality work custom-tailored to their needs. I write and edit the clearly understood, crisp, and engaging text that establishes the correct ‘tone’ for the book, article, or research document. Projects can be written or edited in either American-English or British-English, and I aim for perfection in grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

BACKGROUND and EDUCATION

A native English speaker (American or British) — BA, BSc, MA, PhD. I am an American-born Australian citizen, a past resident of the UK, and now a permanent resident of France. I live in Brittany and my time zone is PARIS.

A COLLABORATIVE PROCESS

A set of questions is sent to potential clients to determine what their specific needs are, how much research will be required (if any), what the timeframe is for turnaround, how they feel about receiving input and suggestions from an editor or writer, and how comprehensive the assignment is in terms of the time required to complete the project.
We jointly determine if the author or client wishes to have overall control, or are they open to insertions, deletions, and a change of focus if that is required.
We decide on the message that the document or book needs to convey.
When the terms are agreed upon, I make every effort to be consistent throughout the process and retain the ‘author’s voice’ on any editing project.
For my original research-based writing, we agree on the focus area, the general length, the audience (general readership, industry-focused, or academic readership), and determine how in-depth any research should be.
For each client, I tailor my work to their specific needs. My quotations are given based on each individual project and the complexity of the writing and/or editing that is necessary for that assignment.

I am routinely asked to sign non-disclosure agreements when I am editing/writing/rewriting book manuscripts or sensitive security, tech, or legal documents. For that reason, you will not find any material on those topics in my portfolio.

Writing and editing is done in both American-English and British-English, and samples are available upon request.
