About | Deborah Harmes

From accredited news journalist to psychological counsellor to wildly busy writer-editor-researcher — I’m now happily back to working in the arts. I am an American-born Australian citizen, a past resident of the UK, and now a permanent resident of France. I live in Brittany and my time zone is PARIS.

For many years, my life as Deborah Harmes PhD has been happily filled with writing, editing, and scholarly research. Photography sales through several agencies have also played a part in the ‘menu’ of my career interests. So, while I may accept an occasional interesting commission for writing and editing in the future, I am shifting my attention away from that work towards a focus on art.

The global stresses of the last few years have made us appreciate the slower, quieter pace of life in a small French village, and that feels perfect for the next stage of our lives.

Alongside my talented husband, Mark Harmes, we plan to offer paintings, prints, mixed media artwork, small sculptural items, and occasional bits of whimsy in our Harmes Art & Design site.

Things are very busy in our two studios right now because we’re hoping to launch before mid-2024. Also, we hope to have gallery representation alongside online purchases within the next six months. I’ll keep you posted on our progress on this site, and I might even create a visual diary-style blog once this new website is built.
